Chmod/Changing File Properties

This tutorial is all about how to Chmod in FTP. Many people are asking me “Why can’t I edit the codes in my current themes?”

Correcting file properties/CHMOD (change mode) is essential in uploading files to your website.

In this tutorial, I’m going to use SmartFTP Client. It’s free and convenient to use. You can download it HERE.

P.S. If you still don’t know how to upload files to your ftp account, please go HERE first.

  1. Moving on, the first step is to open your ftp program.
  2. Then right click on the file or folder you want to chmod/change the properties (Click on the images to enlarge.)

    ImageShack

  3. A box would pop up. If you want your folder/files to be writable, type in “777″ in the permissions box. (Click on the images to enlarge.)
